And, it is even tougher for disabled students, most countries, especially developing countries don’t really give disabled students the proper privilege for education. Some students are even ignored.
We are congratulating every disabled student that has made it so far, educationally, we know how tough it has been, and we respect the fact that you intend to further your education to the graduate level. So we’ve carefully created these scholarships for graduate students with disabilities so to enable you to have the same privilege as healthy regular students have.

1. AAHD Frederick J. Krause Scholarship on Health and Disability
This is one of the scholarships for graduate students with disabilities that is provided by the American Association on Health and Disability (AAHD). And they were birthed with the purpose of helping the country, state, and local to promote health and wellness in people with disabilities.
And, one of the ways they do this is by providing the AAHD Frederick J. Krause Scholarship which is awarded annually to both national and international academically excellent students with a disability. Applicants must be pursuing their undergraduate or graduate degree or must be at least enrolled as a sophomore in a college.
Also, applicants need to be pursuing studies related to health and disability, including, but not limited to public health, health promotion, disability studies, disability research, rehabilitation engineering, audiology, disability policy, special education, and majors that will impact the quality of life of persons with disabilities.
2. AG Bell College Scholarship Program
This is one of the most-competitive scholarships, approximately only 15% of applicants are chosen. Also, the scholarship is for those that have bilateral hearing loss diagnosed before the age of 4.
Applicants also need to enroll in or plan to attend a mainstream university and work toward a four-year undergraduate degree or a graduate degree. Due to its high competition, you need to have a minimum GPA of 3.25 on a 4.0 scale.
3. Google Lime Scholarship
This is another scholarship for graduate students with disabilities offered by Google in partnership with Lime Connect, a nonprofit organization that supports students with disabilities while they pursue education and promising careers. The scholarship is worth 10,000 USD (for those studying in the US) or 5,000 CAD (for those studying in Canada).
4. Baer Reintegration Scholarship
The Baer Reintegration Scholarship is provided by the Center for Reintegration, and it’s available for various educational levels such as;
- High school equivalency programs
- Trade or vocational school, or certification programs
- Associate’s degree
- Bachelor’s degree
- Graduate degree
- Post-baccalaureate credit coursework
The scholarship is focused on U.S. citizens or legal residents that are diagnosed with bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, or schizoaffective disorder.
5. Google Europe Students with Disabilities Scholarship
This is another scholarship for graduate students with disabilities provided by Google and they are partnering with EmployAbility this time. EmployAbility is also a nonprofit organization that supports students with disabilities while they pursue education and promising careers.
Google is one of the big techs in the world, their scholarships are also focused on students to become future leaders in computing and technology by breaking down the barriers that prevent them from entering these fields. The scholarship is worth €7,000 and it’s available for students that consider themselves to have a visible or invisible disability.
6. NBCUniversal Tony Coelho Media Scholarship
This is one of the scholarships for graduate students with disabilities provided by the American Association of People with Disabilities (AAPD). It is awarded to 8 candidates ($5,625 each) pursuing careers in media, communications, or entertainment industries.
7. American Council of the Blind Scholarship Program
The American Council of the Blind is partnering with other organizations and individuals to provide this scholarship which ranges from $2,000 to $7,000. Just like the name, applicants need to be legally blind and at the same time maintain a 3.0 GPA to be eligible for most scholarships.
Applicants also need to be full-time student or part-time student who works at least 32 hours per week and be involved in their school and the local community.
8. TD Graduate Scholarship for People with Disabilities
This scholarship is funded by TD Bank through the Toronto Rehabilitation Institute to support graduate students with disabilities since 2005. The scholarship is worth up $20,000 and applicants require adaptive aids, technologies, and other resources that can contribute to the financial burden of being a student.
9. AER William and Dorothy Ferrell Scholarship
This is a scholarship for graduate students with disabilities that are awarded annually to 2 (two) candidates that are blind and visually impaired. Applicants need to be studying for a career in the field of services to persons who are blind or visually impaired.
10. AbbVie Immunology Scholarship
This is one of the scholarships for graduate students with disabilities that is provided to disabled (but exceptional) students enrolled at any accredited college in the United States. Applicants need to have one of the following inflammatories;
- Atopic Dermatitis (AD)
- Ankylosing spondylitis (AS)
- Crohn’s disease (CD)
- Hidradenitis suppurativa (HS)
- Juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA)
- Psoriasis (Ps)
- Psoriatic arthritis (PsA)
- Rheumatoid arthritis (RA)
- Ulcerative colitis (UC)
- Uveitis (UV)
Graduate winners are awarded scholarships worth $15,000.
11. 1800wheelchair Scholarship
This scholarship for graduates with disabilities is awarded to 1 (one) or 2 (two) recipients in the amount of $500 each year. Applicants must be enrolled at the graduate level, undergraduate level, or their final year of high school and they have to maintain a minimum CGPA of 3.0.
12. Snowdon Masters Scholarships
This Scholarship is available for both national and international disabled students applying for a master’s programme at any UK institution.
13. 180 Medical Scholarship
The 180 Medical Scholarship is available for full-time college students living with specific medical conditions, including spinal cord injuries, spina bifida, transverse myelitis, neurogenic bladder, or an ostomy. 7 (seven) recipients are chosen and awarded a $1,000 college scholarship.
14. Boomer Esiason Foundation (BEF) Academic Scholarships
This is one of the scholarships for graduate students with disabilities that is worth $10,000 and is awarded to 20 students. The aim of the scholarship is to provide financial assistance to students in the cystic fibrosis community who are pursuing higher education opportunities.
15. American Foundation for the Blind Scholarship
AFB is partnering with the American Council of the Blind (ACB) to provide scholarships to legally blind exceptional students ranging from $2,000 to $7,500. Applicants need to maintain a GPA of 3.0 and need to be a full-time student or a student who work 32 or more hours per week and attend college part-time.
16. Elizabeth Nash Foundation
This foundation was built in honor of Elizabeth’s lifelong example of giving and to continue her fight against Cystic Fibrosis (CF). The foundation annually awards $1,000 to $2,500 worth of scholarships to assist persons with CF to pursue undergraduate and graduate degrees.
17. INCIGHT Scholarship
This scholarship for graduate students with disabilities has been existing since 2004 and has been awarded more than 940 scholarships. The scholarship is available for any kind of disability, and you need to be a current Washington, Oregon, or California resident to be eligible.
18. Lighthouse Guild Scholarship
This is one of the merit-based scholarships for graduate students that are blind or visually impaired. Lighthouse Guild provides 20 scholarships annually to exceptional legally blind high school students in the United States and at least one scholarship to graduate students.
Conclusion
As you can see from these scholarships for graduate students with disabilities, even though the scholarships are for disabled students, it still doesn’t wave away the need for academic excellence. Academic excellence (and sometimes extracurricular activities) can never be overemphasized in getting most scholarships.
