1. New York Women in Film & Television (NYWIFT) Scholarship Fund
Founded in 1995, the NYWIFT Scholarship Fund aims to empower the next wave of women in the film industry. Their mission is to nurture emerging talent across various fields, including directing, editing, cinematography, animation, and content production.
Each year, NYWIFT awards scholarships to promising female students in film-related programs. These opportunities are available to undergraduates and second-year students at several prestigious New York institutions.
The participating schools include Brooklyn College, City College of New York, Columbia University, Feirstein School of Cinema, Hunter College, New York University, and Stony Brook Manhattan Center for Creative Writing & Film.
The scholarship usually opens in Spring each year and requires you to submit academic records, project proposals, and personal statements when applying. If you’re one of the shortlisted candidates, you will be interviewed.
And if you’re selected as one of the scholarship recipients, you might receive funding between $2,500 to $7,500 for your filmmaking education. 2. Women in the Screen Industries Scholarship
Metfilm school realized that there are very few women in the film industry so, they set up this scholarship program to bring in more women into the field as a way of promoting diversity, equality, and inclusion within the screen industry.
This scholarship only applies to bachelor of arts and master of arts programmes offered by Metfilm School. Your full tuition fees will be completely covered by the scholarship but you’d have to sort your accommodation and expenses from your pocket.
Below are the eligibility criteria:
- You must be over 18 years old
- Provide evidence of financial need
- Submit examples of your creative work which can be in the form of a film, TV episode, short-form content, projects or scripts.
- You must have been accepted to study at Metfilm School
- Submit letter a letter of recommendation
To be considered for this scholarship, you must submit both the scholarship application form and the course application form simultaneously. Incomplete applications will not be eligible for interview consideration. Make sure to complete and submit both forms together to ensure your application is processed.
3. Black Women Film Network (BWFN) Scholarships
As a black woman aspiring to pursue a career in the film industry, there are so many odds against you but with this scholarship you will receive both financial help, motivation, encouragement, and various opportunities necessary to help you achieve your dreams.
To apply for the BWFN scholarships, you will need to complete the scholarship application form (see link below), and submit two letters if recommendation from your college instructor.
You will also need to mail your college transcript to Black Women Film Network, PO Box 311288, Atlanta, GA 31131.
4. Suzanne Dooley College Tuition Scholarship
This scholarship is offered by the Women in Film Dallas, a non-profit initiative dedicated to empowering women in the media industry. The $3,000 scholarship is awarded to a woman enrolled in a full-time film, television, or digital media program at a college or university in Texas.
You must be a resident of Texas as well to apply and submit a completed application form along with a personal statement on your interest and experience in the film, television, or digital media industry.
You would submit a sample of your work and two letters of recommendation from a professor who have firsthand knowledge of your abilities and can judge your work. Get an official document from your campus registrar’s office confirming your name, contact information, your status as a student, and your current cumulative G.P.A.

5. Women in Film Seattle – Seattle Film Institute Scholarship & Grants
So, the Women in Film Seattle partners with Seattle Film Institute to provide three scholarships and grants to aspiring women filmmakers. These scholarships are:
MFA in Filmmaking & Producing
This award is for women looking to pursue a Master of Arts in Filmmaking & Producing to refine their crafts and develop top-level skills. The award is $10,000.
BA or Certificate in Film
If you want to pursue a bachelor’s degree or certificate in filmmaking, motion graphics, sound design, and acting for film then you should consider applying for this grant and receive $5,000 to apply towards your education.
Masters of Arts in Producing for Film
This award is specially for students who want to enroll in Seattle Film Institute to pursue a MA in Producing for Film. The award is $5,00.
6. Dr. Kazi Hussain High School Scholarships
This scholarship awards $500 to support female students who want to pursue a career in the media arts like filmmaking. You must be at least 18 years old and have a strong interest in film or video. You must also be a member of Women in Film & Television Florida.
Priority will be given to those who have demonstrated a high degree of commitment in their studies so far, and who clearly articulate their future goals in film.
