The fees for studying in any college in the United States are increasing annually, and there’s no sign of slowing down, it’s not easy for international students to pay for college, and it’s even harder for disabled students.
In fact, statistics from The World Bank found that primary school completion for children with disabilities in 19 developing countries is just 48 percent, and as many as three in ten children with disabilities have never been to school.
So, I meticulously created this list of scholarships for disabled international students in USA so to reduce the gap, and help disabled students pursue their desired careers.

Like I said earlier, I carefully chose these scholarships, and I focused on those that are available annually, so even though the deadline has been reached, you can still apply for the next year.
Below is a list of yearly available international scholarships you can apply for to study in the USA as a disabled student;

1. Allegra Ford Thomas Scholarship for LD and ADHD Students
The Allegra Ford Thomas Scholarship is one of the scholarships for disabled international students in USA provided by the National Center for Learning Disabilities. The scholarship is worth $5,000 and it’s awarded over two years ($2,500 each year).
The recipient has to be a graduating high school senior who will enroll in a two-year community college, a vocational or technical training program, or a specialized program. The applicant also has to be a student with LD and/or ADHD in the fall and must have a documented learning disability (LD) and/or ADHD.
2. Anne Ford Scholarship
This is another scholarship for disabled international students in the United States provided by the National Center for Learning Disabilities. The scholarship is worth $10,000 ($2,500/year over four years).
Recipients have to be graduating high school seniors that will be enrolled in a full-time bachelor’s degree program in the fall. Students must have a documented learning disability (LD) and/or ADHD.
3. AAHD Frederick J. Krause Scholarship on Health and Disability
The American Association on Health and Disability (AAHD) was birthed with the purpose of helping the country, state, and local to promote health and wellness in people with disabilities. They also help to identify effective intervention strategies that reduce health disparities between people with disabilities and the general population.
One of the ways they do this is by providing the AAHD Frederick J. Krause Scholarship which is awarded annually to both national and international academically excellent students with a disability. Applicants must be pursuing their undergraduate or graduate degree or must be at least enrolled as a sophomore in a college.
Also, applicants need to be pursuing studies related to health and disability, including, but not limited to public health, health promotion, disability studies, disability research, rehabilitation engineering, audiology, disability policy, special education, and majors that will impact the quality of life of persons with disabilities.
4. Baer Reintegration Scholarship
The Baer Reintegration Scholarship is one of the scholarships for disabled international students in USA provided by The Center for Reintegration. The Center for Reintegration is a non-profit organization committed to helping people with mental illnesses pursue a meaningful life through reintegration.
The scholarship is available for students who suffer from schizophrenia, schizoaffective disorder, or bipolar disorder and are currently receiving treatment for their disease.
5. Microsoft Disability Scholarship
This is one of the scholarships for disabled students in the United States that is awarded to promising high school seniors with disabilities that intend to attend a vocational or academic college. Since Microsoft is one of the big techs in the world, their scholarships are also focused on students pursuing careers in the technology industry.
The beauty of this scholarship is that it’s renewable, and each winner who continues to meet the criteria is eligible to receive an annual award of $5,000 for up to four (4) consecutive years for a potential total of $20,000 scholarship.
6. Hemophilia Federation of America (HFA) Educational Scholarships
This scholarship is awarded to bleeding disorders patients that are Seeking post-secondary education from a college, university, or trade school. They provide three kinds of scholarships, which include;
- HFA Educational Scholarship worth $2,000
- HFA Medical/Health Services Educational Scholarship worth $4,000
- HFA Parent/sibling/child Educational Scholarship worth $2,000
7. Google Lime Scholarship
This is one of the scholarships for disabled international students in USA and Canada that is worth 10,000 USD or 5,000 CAD. Just like the Microsoft Disability Scholarship, this one is also focused inspire and help students become future leaders in computing and technology by breaking down the barriers that prevent them from entering these fields.
Meanwhile, Google is partnering with Lime Connect, a nonprofit organization that supports students with disabilities. Whether you have either a visible or invisible disability, you can apply for this scholarship.
8. AG Bell College Scholarship Program
This is one of the most-competitive scholarships for disabled international students in the US, approximately only 15% of applicants are chosen. Also, the scholarship is for those that have bilateral hearing loss diagnosed before the age of 4.
Applicants also need to enroll in or plan to attend a mainstream university and work toward a four-year undergraduate degree or a graduate degree. Due to its high competition, you need to have a minimum GPA of 3.25 on a 4.0 scale.
9. 1800Wheelchair Scholarship
The 1800Wheelchair scholarship is worth $500 and it’s awarded to one or two candidates enrolled at an accredited high school, college, or university in the U.S. Applicants also need to be a minimum of 16 years old, and have a minimum CGPA of 3.0.
10. Graeme Clark Scholarship
This is one of the scholarships for disabled international students in USA that is provided by Cochlear which is worth $2,000 annually for up to 4 (four) consecutive years. Applicants are mostly chosen based on their academic prowess and some considerations are given to those with extracurricular activities and community involvement.
11. Help America Hearing – Scholarship
The Help America Hearing is providing two state-of-the-art hearing aids which best fit his/her hearing loss, along with a $2000 Scholarship to the student’s college or vocational school of choice. This scholarship is available for 5 winners.
