What does a fully funded agriculture scholarship cover?
A fully-funded agricultural scholarship mostly covers the complete tuition of the awardee. That means the recipient won’t pay a dime for the tuition fee.
Also, some of them go further to cover the recipient’s accommodation, books, trips, feeding, living expenses, and agricultural research expenses.
Fully Funded Agriculture Scholarships
One thing you need to know as you go through these full-tuition scholarships is that they are very competitive, and a lot of people with high grades are interested in scholarships like these. But, even if you’re not eligible for any of them, you can still try other scholarships.
1. United States Department of Agriculture – Public Service Leaders Scholarship Program
In 1862, when President Abraham Lincoln founded the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), he called it the “people’s Department.” In Lincoln’s day, 48% of the people were farmers who needed good seeds and information to grow their crops. Today, USDA continues Lincoln’s legacy by serving all Americans.
Together with other services they render, they are providing this fully-funded agricultural scholarship and internship opportunities in partnership with the Hispanic College Fund. The full-tuition scholarship lasts for two years, and it also comes with;
- A paid internship (640 hours) leading to guaranteed permanent employment
- Employee benefits
- Mentoring, career development, and leadership training
- Use of a personal computer.
Applicants need to be U.S. citizens or be in the application process for U.S. citizenship.
2. Kansas State University – College of Agriculture Scholarships
K-State is one of the Universities that provides both partial and fully funded agriculture scholarships, and they have been providing these financial aids since 1985. So far they awarded $1,013,130 in cooperative scholarships to 439 Kansas State University College of Agriculture and agricultural economics departments.
Their scholarships usually range from $1,900 to full tuition.
3. Oregon State University – College of Agricultural Science Scholarships
College of Agricultural Science at Oregon State University awards nearly $300,000 in financial support to their students, plus $500,000 in funds awarded to students from their departments. Awards vary from $500 to full in-state tuition, with an average of over 140 awards distributed each year.
The beauty of it is that all students currently enrolled in an AgSci degree program are eligible to apply, and applicants need to complete the OSU ScholarDollars Application.
4. Tennessee State University – 1890 Farm Bill Scholarship
This is one of the full tuition agriculture scholarships that support recruiting, engaging, retaining, mentoring and training undergraduate students pursuing a program in Tennessee State University’s College of Agriculture. The scholarship is highly competitive and provides full tuition and room and board for up to four years to selected students accepted or already enrolled in the College of Agriculture at Tennessee State University.
The scholarship is eligible for citizens of the United States.
5. Oklahoma State University – Ferguson College of Agriculture Scholarships
Oklahoma State University provides $1.8 million in scholarships to students in the Ferguson College of Agriculture. And, when they are awarding scholarships, they look at several areas of a student’s background including (but not limited to): scholastic standing in high school or college; leadership qualities; financial need; and sincere interest in the various disciplines.
The school provides three levels of scholarships to prospective freshmen and transfer students interested in majors within the Ferguson College of Agriculture, they include;
- University-wide scholarships
- Ferguson College of Agriculture scholarships
- Departmental scholarships
6. Prestage Agricultural Scholarship
This is one of the fully funded agriculture scholarships awarded to an outstanding student each year. The scholarship is just one, which makes it extremely competitive, so you might need a very high grade – perhaps a perfect one to stand a chance.
The scholarship is founded by Marsha K. Prestage, treasurer and director of Prestage Farms, and it’s designed to inspire outstanding students to pursue careers in production agriculture by relieving some of the burdens of the cost of higher education.
7. USDA 1890 National Scholars Program
The USDA/1890 National Scholar Program is aimed at bolstering educational and career opportunities for students from rural or underserved communities around the country. Applicants have to be studying food, agriculture, natural resource and other related sciences.
The scholarship provides recipients with full tuition, fees, books, room and board, and applicants need to be U.S. citizens.
8. Southwestern Michigan College Scholarships
SMC offers over 250 scholarships based on a wide range of qualifications that extend beyond academic performance to students from various fields of study including Agriculture. They offer several merit-based scholarships and some nearly full-tuition scholarships to top-performing students.
9. HARDING Financial Aid
Approximately 96% of HARDING undergraduate students receive financial aid, with approximately $60 million awarded annually. The basic form you need to fill out while applying for any of their scholarships is the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) form.
Almost all their scholarships including fully-funded agricultural scholarships are awarded on a merit-based, so you don’t need to write a separate application for them.
10. University of Florida – College of Agricultural and Life Sciences Scholarships
The University of Florida is providing two full-tuition scholarships to non-UF students wishing to study entomology or UF non-entomology majors wishing to change majors to entomology. Current majors have a number of scholarship opportunities via a separate departmental application.
Applicants must have at least a 3.30 overall GPA and be willing to declare Entomology & Nematology as a major. Both scholarships will cover full in-state tuition for the final 60 hours of the undergraduate degree.
Conclusion
Being awarded a full-tuition scholarship is the dream of most students because it comes with privileges beyond money, but it also comes with a very huge price. You have to be at your very best because these scholarships are few and you’ll be having those that have a very high grade, leadership experience, plus extracurricular activities battling the same scholarship with you.
