The Zeta Phi Beta scholarship is a type of scholarship that is provided by the Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Incorporated. Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated was founded on January 16, 1920, at Howard University, Washington, D.C. It is a non-profit organization that is divided into eight intercontinental regions and 875+ Chapters located in the USA, Africa, Europe, Asia, and the Caribbean.

The membership of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated includes 125,000+ college-educated, dynamic, community service-driven, diverse, and professional women. The mission of the Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc.’s National Educational Foundation is to support higher education achievement through scholarships and conduct community education programs and related research to improve individual and community living standards.

The Foundation annually provides financial assistance to worthy students pursuing higher education both at the Undergraduate and Graduate levels. The benefits of membership include opportunities for professional development, personal development, and sisterhood. Their members are active in their respective communities and hold dear the ideals of Service, Scholarship, Sisterhood, and Finer Womanhood. Their members fall under these categories;

Undergraduate: Initiated members who are currently pursuing a baccalaureate degree

Graduate: Initiated members who have obtained at least one undergraduate degree

Honorary: Initiated members identified by the International body of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated for providing exemplary service to the community through their service or profession

Life Member: Initiated members who have paid extra fees for the ability to be classified as life members with extra privileges.

Zeta Dove: Initiated members identified by the International body of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated for providing exemplary service to the Sorority for 50 years or more.

What Does the Zeta Phi Beta Scholarship Cover?

The Zeta Phi Beta scholarship provides $125,000 to cover the cost of tuition and related expenses.

Zeta Phi Beta scholarship requirements

The following requirements must be met before you can apply for the Zeta Phi Beta scholarship. They are as follows;

  • You must have a minimum 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale.
  •  You must demonstrate a moderate to significant financial need.
  •  You must demonstrate a commitment to community service and involvement.
  • You must be a female senior high school senior who qualifies for free or reduced-fare lunch based upon U.S. Federal guidelines. NOTE: Applicants do not have to receive free or reduced fare lunch, they simply need to meet the qualifications for it.
  • You must be graduating in May or June of the award year (2024) and enrolling as a full-time student at an accredited college or university in the fall of the same year.

How to Apply for Zeta Phi Beta Scholarship

For you to apply for the Zeta Phi Beta scholarship, you need to register for portal access, and then take the Eligibility Quiz to be matched with scholarships. Upon completion of the Eligibility Quiz, if you qualify, you will receive a notification to select up to 3 of the 13 ZNEF Scholarships (not including ZOL or Life Members). Completing one ZNEF application will populate all three of your ZNEF scholarship information pages (There may be additional information needed for each, however). You may also qualify for additional scholarships from ZOL or Life Members if eligibility criteria are met

Zeta Phi Beta scholarship

Since 1975, the Foundation has awarded thousands of dollars in scholarships and fellowships for higher education to both Zetas and Non-Zetas. The Foundation has processed hundreds of other scholarships, as a part of its Chapter Designated Scholarship program, established in 1980.

 Under the program, local scholarships and fellowships are awarded by chapters throughout the country. The Foundation’s scholarship program is funded by the support of its principal donor, Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. through chapter tax and life member fees, by contributions and gifts from members and chapters, by Board of Managers’ contributions and fundraising, memorial scholarships, as well as fundraising at the Regional and State levels.

 Endowments have been established for the Foundation at the National level, Chapter level, and by the Board of Managers. Scholarships are rewarded annually, for both undergraduate and graduate study, and are processed through the Foundation’s Scholarship Committee.  ZNEF provides scholarships to worthy students to further their higher educational goals. They currently offer 15 ZNEF titled scholarships for studies across a diverse field of academic areas.

They also offer one $125,000 scholarship, titled the Founders’ Centennial Scholarship. to a female high school senior pursuing a bachelor’s degree at an accredited college or university. The categories of scholarships they offer are as follows;

General Scholarship Program

In honor of the five founding members of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated, the Centennial International President of Zeta Phi Beta, Valerie Hollingsworth Baker, began awarding the Founders’ Centennial Scholarship each year to a new recipient, for five consecutive years beginning the sorority’s Centennial Anniversary year of 2020 with $100,000. Hollingsworth Baker increased the scholarship amount to $125,000 in 2021 to account for the rising costs of college tuition. The 2023 scholarship is named the Triumphant Founder Viola Tyler Goings Centennial Scholarship.

The 2024 scholarship award, named for Triumphant Founder Fannie Pettie Watts, will be made to one deserving female high school senior to cover educational costs up to, and not to exceed, $125,000 total. The award is targeted to honor a female high school senior who exhibits personal integrity and excellence through academic achievement and community involvement, and the awardee must demonstrate a moderate to significant need for financial assistance in attaining her higher educational goals. The recipient may complete her undergraduate studies in the field of her choice at an accredited four-year college or university of her choice. There are three types of scholarships under the general scholarship program. They are;

  • Founders’ Centennial – Female HS Seniors ONLY
  • GEICO HBCU High School Changemaker Scholarship – Female HS Seniors ONLY
  • GEICO HBCU Undergraduate Changemaker Scholarships – Zetas ONLY

ZNEF Scholarship Program

ZNEF offers 14 individual scholarships that are open to high school seniors and college students. 11 are offered to the general public. You may apply to up to 3 of these scholarships. The award amount for each scholarship is at least $3,000. The scholarships are as follows;

Life Members’ Scholarship- Open to undergraduate Zetas

Zeta National Educational Foundation (ZNEF) is proud to offer the Life Members Scholarship to eight undergraduate women (one per region) of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated, currently matriculating full-time in an accredited four-year institution. The Life Members Scholarship is offered during the Boule years. Each eligible applicant will be financially responsible for the current year of award and actively pursuing a degree. All applicants must meet all criteria delineated in the application form.

Zeta Organizational Leadership (ZOL) Scholarship Program (Offered in 2024-25)

Zeta National Educational Foundation (ZNEF) is proud to offer eight scholarships to cover registration for deserving undergraduate sorors who would like to become Zeta Organizational Leadership (ZOL) certified and advance their Zeta career.
