I had always thought that banks only offer student loans and that was it, you can imagine my surprise finding out that banks also offer scholarships. Is this new for you as well?

It is awesome that banks offer scholarships to assist prospective and current college students, this gives students one more place to look for scholarships and apply for them, and you know scholarships are “free money” which means you do not have to refund it, unlike a student loan.

These bank scholarships are offered by some of the top banks in the United States like the Bank of America, Chase Bank, the U.S. Bank, etc. The requirements and eligibility criteria of the bank scholarships vary from bank to bank but do not worry, you will read about all of them in this blog. The U.S. Bank offers annual scholarships of up to $20,000 to high school seniors who are going to college and current college students. Applicants must be residents of the United States aged at least 17 years old. You must have been accepted into college or enrolled in college to receive the award. This scholarship is not open to international students.

Application for the scholarship is easy, applicants only need to complete the U.S. Bank’s “financial education lesson” module which takes 1-2 minutes to complete each module. If you complete more modules, your funding increases. The least module you can complete to be eligible is 35 modules which will earn you about $2,000.

2.     BankMobile Annual Financial Literacy Scholarship

BankMobile offers an annual $1,500 scholarship award to one excellent undergraduate or graduate student who is blazing a trail and shaking things up in the world of financial empowerment. Applicants are required to submit a creative video in MP4 format between 30 seconds to 1 minute explaining the importance of financial empowerment in their life and career.

You will also be required to submit an unofficial transcript and have excellent academics with a minimum GPA of 3.0 or higher. Proof of enrollment or acceptance is required from applicants enrolled in non-accredited institutions. Only U.S. citizens are eligible to apply.

3.     CC Bank’s Young Scholars Scholarship

The Central Cooperative Bank (CC Bank) offers an annual scholarship of up to $2,000 to five students enrolled in higher institutions across the United States. This is one of those bank scholarships that are not very popular, so you want to give it all you got to ensure you are selected among the winners.

For the requirements you apply, you must be under the age of 30, a resident of the US, have a minimum of 3.0 GPA on a scale of 4.0, and be enrolled in an academic institution at the time of the scholarship award. The application deadline is December 31 annually, so apply before the deadline.

Students in senior year, sophomore year, junior year, and even freshmen year can apply for the CC Bank’s Young Scholars Scholarship.

4.     Royal Business Bank Scholarship Program

The Royal Business Bank is one of the biggest Chinese-American banks based in Los Angeles, California. With a commitment to supporting youth to fulfill their dreams of obtaining a higher education, the Royal Business Bank offers four $1,000 scholarships annually to high school seniors who are going to college in the Fall.

To be eligible, you must be a high school senior who resides in one of the following places in the US:

  • New York – New York County, Kings County, Queens County, Richmond County
  • New Jersey – Middlesex County
  • California – Los Angeles County, Orange County, Ventura County
  • Nevada – Clark County
  • Illinois – Cook County
  • Hawaii – Honolulu County, Oahu only

Also, you must have a minimum high school GPA of 3.0 or higher, and come from a household at or below the County Low Income Level which you will have to provide your tax return for verification. Application requirements are the application form, recommendation form, and high school transcript.

Employees of Royal Business Bank and their immediate family members are not eligible to apply.

5.     PNC Student Solution Scholarship

PNC Bank launched the Student Solution Scholarship to provide free funding for US residents who are 18 years or older entering college or enrolled in college. You will need to create an account with PNC Bank to be eligible for the award. The scholarship value is $2,000.

6.     D.L. Evans Bank Scholarship

This is one of the bank scholarships in the US and here is how it works;

Every year, D.L. Evans Bank awards sixteen $2,000 in scholarships to high school seniors who are intent on pursuing higher education full-time in the US. To be eligible, you must be a graduating high school senior from Idaho or Northern Utah planning to pursue higher education and have an unweighted CGPA of 3.0 or higher. Preference will be given to students majoring in finance, business, or economics.

Application requirements are your high school transcript (unofficial), two letters of recommendation, and a typed statement describing the following:

  • Your educational and career goals and objectives
  • Your extra-curricular activities, awards, and honors (include high school years only)

7.     Firstrust Bank Annual Samuel A. Green Scholarship Program

Samuel A. Green is the founder of Firstrust Bank, this scholarship program was set up to honor him. The scholarship is awarded to students in the Greater Philadelphia and Lehigh Valley Regions who want to pursue college or university in a full-time program. You may receive up to $20,000 which will be evenly distributed across the duration of your program, whether 2 or 4 years.

To apply for this bank scholarship, you must be below 30 years of age and submit a 300-word essay that answers the question: “How will you use your college education to make a substantial impact in your community?”

Only the top 100 applicants will be selected as semi-finalists. These semi-finalists will then submit other documents like a letter of reference to attest to their demonstrated leadership and a copy of their high school transcript. The scholarship is disbursed by the Green Family Foundation.
