Did you know there are several scholarships for Latino law students, we didn’t know either until we started putting in the work to compile these scholarships and realized there were more than 20 scholarships exclusively for Hispanic law students. And these scholarships can serve you in almost all accredited American Bar Association universities.
We realized that the major cause for very low college graduation for Latino descent is because of financial constraints, that’s why we took our time to compile these scholarships that don’t need to be repaid.
Moreover, you can still apply for other law financial aid patent law scholarships if you intend to focus on dealing with clients that intend to protect their new invention by law, or public interest law scholarships if you intend to focus on legally helping the poor, marginalized, or under-represented people.
There are still other law scholarships by state you can take advantage of like law scholarships in Florida or even law financial assistance in Texas depending on your residence.

Scholarships for Latino Law Students
1. HNBA – General VIA Law Student Scholarships
These scholarships are exclusively for Hispanic law students in the US, and it doesn’t matter their immigration status. Funds from these scholarships can be used for tuition, books, and fees, or living expenses.
2. HNBA – Fernando J. Rivero Public Sector Service Fund
The Hispanic National Bar Association in partnership with Vision in Action (VIA) created this fund in honor of Fernando’s leadership, dedication, and service to the HNBA and the Hispanic community at large. The fund will cover registration, travel, and/or lodging expenses that the applicant incurs as part of his or her board or leadership service.

4. Santa Clara University – Opportunities in Law for Minorities
SCU doesn’t only provide scholarships to Hispanic/Latino Law Students, they also waive application fees for minority group members. You’re advised to give information on your racial or ethnic identity, as such will enable the school to provide the funds and privileges you deserve.
5. Hispanic National Bar Foundation (HNBF)
HNBF is on a mission to help Hispanics achieve their Law dream through quality education, as well as make the legal profession in the United States more diverse. They don’t only provide scholarships, but also programs, fellowships, and other resources.
6. Mexican American Legal Defense and Educational Fund (MALDEF) Law Scholarship Program
MALDEF is among the scholarships for Latino law students that were created to help law students who seek to further MALDEF’s mission of advancing the civil rights of the Latino community in the United States. Due to resources made available, this organization has been able to award five to 15 scholarships worth $2,000 to $10,000 recently.
7. Minority Corporate Counsel Association – LMJ Scholarship
If you’re among the law students from a disadvantaged background who have been admitted to an ABA-accredited law school on a full-time basis with a minimum GPA of 3.2, then you might be eligible for this $10,000 worth of scholarship
8. Puerto Rican Bar Association Scholarship Fund
To be eligible for the Puerto Rican Bar Association Scholarship Fund, Puerto Rican and Latino Law students need to remain in good standing and enroll full-time at an accredited ABA Law School in New York State, which is also permanently residing in New York State.
9. San Francisco La Raza Lawyers Association – Public Interest Law Scholarship
If you’re a Bay Area Law Student, who is taking unpaid positions with Bay Area community-based legal service providers (delivering legal services to the Latino community), this scholarship might be right for you. Also, you need to demonstrate financial need, have a good academic record, with leadership experience; hardship experience is a preference.
10. La Raza Lawyers Charitable Foundation – Santa Clara County
For more than 2 decades, La Raza Lawyers Charitable Foundation has been awarding scholarship worth up to $10,000 to Bay Area law students who have contributed to underserved communities, especially those in the Latinx community.
11. Dominican Bar Association’s Scholarship Program
The DBA awards individual scholarships for Latino law students in the amount of $3,000 to eligible candidates who demonstrate community involvement, academic promise, and financial need. The number of available scholarships is dependent on the funds raised by the DBA.
12. HBA Orange County Wallace R. Davis Memorial Scholarship Fund
Due to the fact that Latinos constitute almost 50% of California’s population, yet less than 4% of California’s attorneys are Latino, HBA decided to create this scholarship to financially help Orange County Latino students. These students need to be attending law school and have demonstrated involvement in the Latino Community.
13. Mexican American Bar Association High School Scholarship
This scholarship is for Latino/a high school seniors attending schools that participate in MABA’s Student Outreach Program. The scholarship is worth $2,500 and seeks to assist students with their college-related expenses.
Applicants need to show proof of financial need, have a good academic record, and have proven leadership experience.
14. Latina Lawyers Bar Association Scholarship
The Latina Lawyers Bar Association provides scholarship and bar stipend programs for outstanding law students enrolled at a law school in California. However, Latina Lawyers Bar Association Board Members and their family members are not eligible for this scholarship/bar stipend award.
15. Mexican American Bar Foundation Annual Scholarship Program
For more than 3 decades, MABF has awarded more than 3.8 million in scholarships, bar study stipends, and related aid. Last year, they awarded approximately $250 thousand dollars in scholarships and bar study stipends and 25 students received an average of $10,000.
16. The National Latina/O Law Students Association
NLLSA provides several scholarships for Latino law students ranging from $500 To $1000. To apply for the scholarship you just need a minimum GPA of 2.0 and have shown commitment to supporting the Hispanic/Latino community.
17. New York University School of Law – Latinx Rights Scholarship
Annually, the Latinx Rights Scholarship awards two full-tuition scholarships to incoming law students. Besides the scholarship funds, scholars will also receive support and mentorship from Faculty Director, alumni, and the Public Interest Law Center at NYU Law.
18. Hispanic Lawyers Scholarship Fund
This is among the scholarships for Hispanic law students awarded based on merit, financial need, and commitment to the Latino community. Annually HLSF awards scholarships worth $5,000 to Latino law students, and $5,000 fellowships.
19. The HLS Latino Scholarship Fund
Harvard Law School Latino Alumni Center, in 2017, created a generous new scholarship fund to support the next generation of Harvard Law School Latino students. Through this scholarship, Hispanic/Latino students will be able to study Law at one of the best universities in the world.
20. Steinger, Greene & Feiner Hispanic Heritage Law Student Scholarship
The Steinger, Greene & Feiner are providing $1,000 worth of scholarships to one student of Hispanic descent seeking to obtain a law degree. Applicants need to have a minimum GPA of 2.8 and write an essay of 500-1000 words on a topic provided by the firm.
21. HBALEF Scholarships
Hispanic Bar Association of Pennsylvania Legal Education Fund (HBALEF) is one of the scholarships for Latino law students that are available on a competitive basis. Depending on the generous amount received, will determine the amount of scholarships given out, the amount usually ranges from $3,000 to $4,000 per recipient.
