Writing this article made me realize that there are significant differences in the meaning of prep school in the US and UK. Prep school in the UK are private school for pupils between the ages of seven and thirteen while in the US, they are a private school that prepares students for college, and not just any college but for some of the top best in the country.
In the UK, they are referred to as preparatory schools while in the US they are referred to as college-preparatory schools.
I just thought to bring in this little bit of clarity before we officially dive into the main article.
As you must have already seen, the similarities between a UK and US prep school are they prepare students excellently for the next phase of their academic life and they are private. Private schools, in any part of the world, are known to be expensive which discourages many parents from sending their children to one but it shouldn’t be so.
The cost of prep school shouldn’t be a limitation for parents to send their child to one as there are scholarships and other financial aid options that are available every year to assist with the cost. Skippers Hill Manor Preparatory School Scholarships & Bursaries are awarded annually for children from Year 3 to Year 7. This is an amazing opportunity for parents who wish to send their child to a private school in the UK.
2. North Broward Prep Scholarships and Financial Aid
North Broward Preparatory School is located in Lyons Road, Coconut Creek, Florida, USA, and offers scholarships and need-based financial assistance annually to students who meet the requirements. For need-based financial aid, candidates are assessed based on family income, academic profile, and availability of funding because the amount of financial aid is limited.
For the scholarships, North Broward offers two types which are the Academic Honors Scholarship and the Fine Arts Scholarship. Both are awarded based on outstanding academic achievement and to be considered for either the scholarship or need-based financial aid, you must be enrolled in the prep school. The Year 3 & 5 scholarship scheme is for high-achieving girls who are entering years 3 and 5 and would benefit from a broad and well-rounded education. The scholarship offers a 25% tuition discount.
5. Hurstpierpoint College Prep School Scholarships
Hurstpierpoint College is a co-ed day and boarding school for pupils from ages 4 to 18. It is located in the West Sussex countryside and is within easy reach of London by train. The college offers several scholarships to new and current prep school pupils. All candidates applying for a place in Year 7 are automatically considered for a scholarship based on the results of the entry tests.
Music scholarships are also offered at Year 7 entry and two fully-funded scholarships for Year 6 pupils who want to join Hurst Prep in Year 7. Candidates are selected based on their academic performance, participation in extra-curricular activities, and their will to embrace the Hurst ethos.
6. Godstowe Scholarships
Godstowe School is a day and boarding school with about 450 pupils located at Shrubbery Rd, High Wycombe, UK. Goldstowe also houses a prep school division for boys and girls from 7 to 13 years old. Godstowe offers several scholarships annually to pupils who are entering Year 7 whether as a day or boarding pupil you may qualify for the scholarship.
The scholarships are awarded based on excellence, achievement, and potential in academia, sport, and the arts. The academic scholarship examination comprises of English and math, computerized, standardized aptitude tests, and an interview with the headmistress. Applications are also invited for potential scholars in art, music, and sport.
7. Broughton Manor Preparatory School Scholarships
Broughton Manor Prep School is a private school for children aged 2 months to 11 years. It is located in the UK and offers scholarships and bursaries to prep pupils which makes it one of the scholarships for prep schools in the UK. The scholarships are for pupils entering Year 3 and above and require pupils to be in good academic standing and good conduct to qualify for a scholarship award.
The bursaries are means-tested and applicants are required to complete a detailed application form with supporting evidence to be reviewed by the school.
8. St Peter’s Preparatory School Scholarships
St Peter’s is one of the prep schools in the UK offering scholarships to pupils with outstanding performance in academics, art and design, music, performing arts, and sports. Pupils who perform excellently in one of the above can be eligible for a prep school scholarship at St Peter’s.
Pupils can apply for the scholarship while in Year 6 and it will come into effect for their Years 7 and 8 at the school. Application for the scholarship is done online and the scholarships carry a fee discount of 10%.

10. Bryanston IMAGINE Year 5 Scholarships
Bryanston Preparatory School is a prep school for children aged 7 to 13 years old. Bryanston offers fee remission scholarships to pupils who excel in creative arts, sports, or academics. Recipients of the scholarship will further receive personalized one-to-one tutoring from a mentor and get the support of the school’s Head of Lower Prep.

Some of the scholarships may also extend to international students but to be sure it is best to contact the admissions office of your preferred prep school and enquire. Bursaries are also like scholarships but they are offered to pupils from low-income families but when the bursary is given to the student, it is non-refundable just like a scholarship.
