Out of the desire to address the great need for an educated citizenry in South Texas, the Stars Scholarship Fund was founded. Since its inception in 2002, more than 20 years ago, they have maintained the belief that an educated citizen is essential to the growth and future success of South Texas.

For the purpose of a wider vision, in 2012, the organization decided to expand into west Texas and to serve a greater population of students, this has made them disburse over $38.12 million since its start in 2002.

The scholarship is awarded to academically talented and highly motivated students who intend to pursue full-time undergraduate, graduate, or doctoral degrees. The scholarship welcomes any level of higher education, regardless of your field of study, gender, ethnicity, religion, or background.

Each year, you can always apply for this scholarship if you are either in South or West Texas. If you have a great academic achievement, and you need financial help, then you’re likely to be awarded the scholarship.

What Stars Scholarship Covers

The Stars Scholarship Fund is awarded to three categories: Community College Students, Undergraduate Full-time Students, and Graduate Full-time students. It is focused on individuals with strong academic records and a clear drive to succeed in their studies.

Even though it might not cover all the costs of studies of recipients, it will help to reduce the financial burden.

Unfortunately, it is not for students outside South and West Texas. But back-to-school scholarships, and even freshmen scholarships give you a wider option.

Stars Scholarship Amount

The amount awarded depends on the program, there are two programs, which are:

Matching Program: This program specifically supports students attending certain partner institutions. Award amounts range from $250 to $5,000 per semester.
General Program: This program is available to students attending any accredited college/university in the US. The average award amount is $1,000 per semester. It all depends on the amount that was raised. Unlike the Matching Program, this program does not consult the school when selecting recipients

Stars Scholarship Requirements

Before you apply for this scholarship, it’s important to ensure you meet all of these criteria:

You must either be a U.S. citizen or a legal permanent resident with a permanent resident card or passport.
Be a permanent resident (5 or more consecutive years) of and have a permanent South or West Texas address in one of our 30 counties.
You must have earned/completed at least 12 undergraduate credit hours at a U.S. accredited college or university before applying for the scholarship (Dual and Advanced Placement credits accepted.).
Have a minimum college cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 2.7 on a 4.0 scale.
Have completed a high school diploma or its equivalent before the Fall of the new academic year.
Are enrolled in a U.S. accredited 2-year. community college (enrolled part-time or full-time) in a degree-seeking program, or a 4-year. university undergraduate program (enrolled full-time) seeking a Bachelor’s Degree, or a university graduate program (enrolled full-time) seeking a Master’s, Law or Doctorate
